Iwona Strzałka – Director & Screenwriter
I am a Polish director and screenwriter, a graduate of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School in Katowice. My films are driven by deep psychological and emotional intensity, exploring the complexity of female experiences and the hidden tensions beneath the surface of relationships.
My short films, including Waiting for, Simon Python, and To Be the Best, have been showcased at prestigious international festivals such as Munich, Mannheim-Heidelberg, and Krakow, where they received recognition, including the Bronze Dragon in Krakow, the Flisak in Toruń, and a Special Mention at the Sopot Film Festival.
My recent work includes Sandwichman, a medium-length drama adapted from Artur Pałyga’s acclaimed play, portraying self-deception and the personal cost of abandoning dreams. I have also co-written the feature film The Teddy Bears.
Passionate about advocating for women’s voices in cinema, I actively participate in international initiatives, notably the HerArts Film Lab in Italy. Additionally, I work in television and teach screenwriting and directing at the AMA Film Academy in Warsaw.
Currently, I am developing Island of Bees, a feature film that explores intergenerational trauma, reconciliation, and the powerful bonds connecting women.
